You’ve probably heard that getting root canal therapy is no picnic. Many people are scared when they hear they need one. Fortunately, because of modern medicine, having root canal therapy is probably not as bad as you’ve heard. In fact, receiving root canal therapy usually feels similar to having a cavity filled. Still, do you ever wonder what happens during this important treatment?
Root canal therapy is an extremely important procedure. If you need this treatment, but don’t get it, you could ultimately lose the afflicted tooth. To make matters worse, other teeth and even your roots, could be affected. Root canal therapy is necessary when the center of your tooth is infected or damaged. If the center of your tooth, which is commonly referred to as the pulp, is damaged, it won’t be able to repair itself, making this treatment even more important.
During this treatment, our dentist will remove any diseased pulp, then clean and seal the area. Next, our team will create a restoration for your tooth. If you care for this restoration well, it could even last a lifetime. You typically won’t have to do anything more than brushing and flossing regularly.
You may need root canal therapy and not even know it. You see, if the nerve in your tooth dies, you won’t feel any pain from the afflicted tooth. If your tooth isn’t treated, it could ultimately crack or fall apart before you know anything is wrong. If you visit our dentist once every six months, we may be able to address any issue you have before it becomes serious.
